Zero One workshop!

I went for the zero one workshop last week. Was totally awesome. All about writing and not the boring useless stuff you learn in school. It was actually useful.

The theme was comic writing but we learn't how to write stories as well. The theme was also Epic Fantasy. Did you know Lord of th Rings is not epic fantasy? Ryan told us that Tolkien, being a scholar of literature purposely deviated from the epic fantasy line( how i am not sure).

Our instructors were so cool. They rattled of names of authors that when i talk about in school receives blank stares. David Gemmel, Terry Pratchett. Terry Pratchett happens to be a master at 'lampshading'. It's a trope. We learn't about tropes. 'Search for the father' 'Rebirth' 'Lampshading' 'Talisman' etc. They taught us about the 5+1 formula when inventing characters for an epic fantasy. So informative.

And we had to write a short story which if we are lucky will be published into an anthology for which NEIL GAIMAN will write the foreword. Stardust; ring a bell? The movie? Well he wrote the book. I love his books. They are right up there alongside with Diana Wyne Jones on my bookshelf.

I hope my story gets picked. I finished it today and sent it in. Six pages. I felt that the last two pages were rubbish though.
